What is a single eyelid?

These folds, which occur in 60 percent of Asians, are skin folds of the upper eyelid that cover the inner corner of the eyes and contribute to the characteristic Asian appearance. If this fold is particularly prominent, it may be removed or minimized surgically in order to make the eyes appear larger, less widely spaced, and more alert.

Benefits of epicanthoplasty

An eyelid surgery known as epicanthoplasty may provide a wide range of cosmetic benefits. In effect, it can reduce the intercanthal distance, making the eyes appear closer to each other (the optimal ratio between the length of the eyes and the intercanthal distance is 1:1). This surgical procedure, which utilizes the Z-technique, also exposes the medial half of the eye, which makes the eyes appear larger and more prominent. The surgical procedure may leave visible scarring.

Can blepharoplasty and canthoplasty be done at the same time?

A blepharoplasty and an epicanthoplasty can be performed concurrently. Upper blepharoplasty may be appropriate for you if you suffer from heaviness, puffiness, or drooping of your upper eyelids. An ideal candidate for epicanthoplasty is a person with strong epicanthal folds that adversely impact the appearance of their eyes and who desires larger eyes while preserving their ethnic characteristics. In order to minimize scarring around your eyes, your surgeon will only perform incisions where necessary. Scarring does sometimes occur following the procedure, but in the six months following the procedure, these 2-3 mm scars will fade dramatically.
